Apprpriate to use a log for my dependent variable

Would it be appropriate to take the log of hourly benefits? Some observations are 0 so it deleted those observations. Thank you

no, it would not.
If you delete 0 hiourly benefit observations, you are implicitly making-up your original sample.
I would try to get the core meaning of 0 in my data before embarking myself on any transformation.
