  • variable does not uniquely identify observations in the using data

    Hi I'm working with two data bases but there they don't have the same observations. The first one belongs to the year 1996 and the second one to the year 2010, So the one from 1996 has 335711 observations and the other one 782970. They both have the variable coduni_96 but this variable is a code number for the universities from 1996 however I can't do the merge because I have an m:m problem. Any thoughts?

    no thought with no data, but an advice: stay away from -m:m-.
    Kind regards,

      I don't see why you're thinking of merge at all. Tell us more about what defines an observation in each dataset.

          I don't know what I am seeing here. Are these observations individual people?

            using data

            thanks for the advice!

            What I need is to tab p21_1 and niveledu_padre to compare how has this variable changed over the years.
            And that also with the other variables.

              Yes, all of those observations are individual people who has attended to those universities.

                So, merge is out of the question. Possibly append makes sense.
