  • Error updating somersd; perhaps due to general update problem?

I'm unable to use the cendif command within the somersd package. The error I get is identical to that mentioned here. If I type
    sysuse auto.dta
    cendif price, by(foreign)

I get the error: tidotforsomersd(): 3499 tidottree() not found

I have updated my libraries (mata: mata mlib query returns a library list ending in lsomersd), restarted Stata, updated the package (adoupdate somersd), and restarted my computer. However, I cannot seem to update ALL ado files... when I try update all, I get the error/stop message cannot write in directory /Applications/Stata/ado/base/0. So perhaps this is the problem? I've looked and this folder exists but is empty. I have no idea why Stata would have trouble writing into it.

    Help would be appreciated!

I'd suggest contacting StataCorp technical support. Note that that directory has nothing to do with community-contributed commands.

Ah, ok thanks for the advice, I'll do that. For clarity, do you mean to say that Statalist is not meant for discussion of user-written commands? I see such threads commonly, and had no idea, if so.

Not at all. Such commands get mentioned here every day, or so I guess.

The point is that user-written (community-contributed) commands would not, or should not, be installed in directory /Applications/Stata/ado/base/0 so that problem is nothing to do with incomplete files for somersd.

I would also flag your OS. See https://www.statalist.org/forums/help#platforms

As no member here has diagnosed the difficulty within 18 hours of your posting, that rather underlines the point of contacting StataCorp.

Ok, great, thanks for the clarification; this makes much more sense. And right, that makes sense about the base ado files vs. somersd. I'll contact StataCorp right now.

              snp15_6 is from SJ and is (out)dated 2006 ...

I recommend downloading the latest version of community-contributed software, which in many (but not all!) cases is found in the SSC archives. somersd from SSC is last updated 2020.
