spshape2dta could not import .shp file

Dear all,

I am using the command spshape2dta and I getting the following error, any idea why is this error appearing?

(importing .shp file)
bufget(): 3300 argument out of range
import_shp_get_shp_header(): - function returned error
import_shp_read_write_data(): - function returned error
import_shp(): - function returned error
<istmt>: - function returned error
could not import .shp file
r(3300);

I feel issues come to my mind:

Is it (originally) a zip file?
If so, has it been unzipped beforehand?
Was the (correct) current directory selected?
Have the current directory both the .shp and .dbf files?
