  • How to create a sunburst chart

I am using data that has multiple variables to categorize observations. I am using a sunburst chart to show the different layers of categories, but I have to do a bunch of tabulations and move the output to excel in order to create the chart. Is there any way I could create a sunburst chart (or something similar) in Stata?

I had to Google "sunburst chart". I can't recollect anything similar being implemented in Stata, so I guess moving to Excel would be easier.

This link has the solution "https://medium.com/the-stata-guide/stata-graphs-half-sunburst-plot-19131cf40446"

I had never heard this term before, but reviewing the graphic example in the posted link, I don't see how this "graph" makes information clearer or more digestible. It looks like a worse version of a pie chart, but now adding hierarchical information to the display. What's wrong with tabulations or barplots?

Leonardo Guizzetti asks a good question. Most of the new ideas in visualization seem to value novelty and being diffferent over simplicity and directness in showing the data. A good test here would be to show some data, a sunburst plot and other solutions.
