  • Titles for groups within a legend

    Dear Statalist

I have produced a stacked bar chart of 15 mortality causes (displaying each as a percentage of all cause mortality). These causes can be divided in to 3 main groups. I would like to to produce a legend for this graph with titles for each of the three mortality cause groups. Is this possible?

The legend might look something like this:

    Cause Group 1
    Cause a -(blue)
    Cause b - (green)
    Cause c - (yellow)

    Cause Group 2
    Cause d - (brown)
    Cause e - (purple)

    Cause Group 3
    Cause f - (yellow)
    Cause g -(pink)

Any suggestions how I could do this?

    Many Thanks
    Joe

    See under

    Code:

    help legend options

how you can add extra text to a legend.

It's hard to believe that a stacked bar chart with 15 categories works well, especially when your legend will consume perhaps 1/3 or 1/4 of the space. Are there other variables too?

      Hi Nick

Thanks for your reply. I agree its too many categories on one graph, but wanted to see if I could group all the causes on one chart, but perhaps not!

      thanks again for you reply
