What it means about a "ado" file?

Capable is a silly question, but I've been using STATA for about two years and I have not been able to learn exactly what a "ado" file means. So my question or questions are: What is an "ado" file ?, What is the difference between an "ado" file and a "do" file? and What practical examples can you give me of what an "ado" file means?
Do anyone know what it could mean and would be able to help me?
