Birth interval using DHS data

I would like to use birth interval as one of the determinants of stunting in children using DHS data. However, I'm not sure which variable to use and how to generate correct variable. In DHS I have b11 - preceding birth interval (months) and b12 - succeeding birth interval (months). Can I use these variables to create variable of my interest? If yes, how should I do it?
