  • At what site do expert Stata consultants offer their services? (Help with short questions.)

At what internet website do expert stata consultants advertise and offer their services?

I will need an expert who can offer me email responses that might require 30 minutes work at several times in the next several days, to answer questions about matters like coding, interpretation, etc. The support would need to be in very rapid turnaround.

I don't know any such site.

I've seen occasional requests for such support here and elsewhere (e.g. Reddit), but the only person I can ever remember advertising availability anywhere was Joe Hilbe, who is no longer with us. In the last several years of his life he turned to writing texts in any case.

I know several people who are full-time consultants and also use Stata intensively and are also members here; I don't think they need to advertise and my impression is that they have no interest in unspecified jobs that just add up to a few hours. They wouldn't thank me for naming them!

Other way round, it's really hard for anyone to know exactly how much work is needed until you've finished it. One reason I don't offer private consultancy is that I follow the culture of giving help in public and for free and can ignore questions and back off whenever I like on whatever grounds I have without impunity. FWIW, I get a trickle of emails offering to pay either for unspecified Stata work or for doing X in Stata. Personally, those are all non-starters, not least because I usually don't even know what is X.

But to the point: You've indicated willingness to hire, and this is the biggest forum there is in the Stata community, so people can send a personal message if they are available. The usual cautions apply on both sides.

I think Nick means with impunity.

Clyde: That's right. Thanks for the correction.

That's the culture: mutual help in public for free. (Clyde and I will be eager to buy each other a drink should we ever meet.)
