What are the contemporary issues in applied economics?

Dear everyone,
I am currently thinking of carried out a research in applied economics.
Accordingly, to be in line with current happenings in developing economies, I would greatly appreciate in if any one can outline some few contemporary issues in applied economics that economist must seek solutions to.
Specifically, this could be in the areas of poverty, heath, education, finance and or some recent concern to developing economies.

While I wish you the best of luck with your research, this is not really the kind of question that the listserve normally handles. It is more of a question for development economics group. Obviously, the first place to look would be the relevant journals, and after that the papers presented recently at the relevant conferences.

Chei, you may want to look at the journals in this list. A number of them have a Call for Papers section requesting contributions. These give you topics that are interesting to the journals at the present time.
