  • How to freeze a column in a stata data editor?

    Hi everyone,
I need to freeze a column in my STATA data editor; to see that column at any time that I am scrolling right or left. Something like freeze command in Excel. I appreciate your advice.
    Thanks,
    Best,
    Nader

As far as I know, the Data Editor does not have this feature.

If you want to see particular variables only, you can select which variables you want to see in the Browser/Data Editor, and you can -order- them whatever way you want. That's not the same thing, but in most situations will get you the data view you want.

That does not seem possible. However, you can hide and show specific variables. When you are looking at, say, var21-var24 and you want to see var1 and var2, the easiest way may be to select the var1 and var2 columns, then in the menus, View > Data Editor > Show only selected variables, then in the Data Edtior Variables pane, select click in the boxes to the left of var21-var24. (Or select var21-var24, right click, and Show selected variables.)

It's not elegant, but maybe it will help.

Added in edit: Crossed with Clyde's alternative approach.

Thank you both for your advice. I exported the data to Excel then used freeze command within Excel.
