  • Interpreting results of utest command

    Dear All,

I am testing for U-shaped relationship and ran utest. I need some help in the interpretation of the results (as I cannot find any information online). Here`s the output:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Specification: f(x)=x^2
    Extreme point: 2.021296

    Test:
    H1: Inverse U shape
vs. H0: Monotone or U shape

    -------------------------------------------------
    | Lower bound Upper bound
    -----------------+-------------------------------
    Interval | -1.504362 5.853607
    Slope | .0154643 -.0168093
    t-value | 2.687749 -1.386659
    P>|t| | .0036334 .0828677
    -------------------------------------------------

Overall test of presence of a Inverse U shape:
    t-value = 1.39
    P>|t| = .0829
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Many thanks or the help.

    Best,
    Umair

I'm a little confused about what the question is; in #1, above, we see a null hypothesis and a p-value of 0.08 - is that what is being asked about? if not what part of the output is not clear? have you read the article (cited in the help file)?
