  • -svy- estimation of inequality indices: -svygei- and -svyatk- updated on SSC

To update these programs, by Martin Biewen and me, please ssc install svygei_svyatk, replace or use adoupdate svygei_svyatk, ssc replace. (The 2 programs are combined into one package for download.)

Many thanks as ever to Kit Baum for implementing the update at SSC.

Background: these programs provide svy estimates of Generalised Entropy and Atkinson indices, commonly used to summarise economic inequality. (For a companion program providing svy estimates of the Gini coefficient and Lorenz ordinates, see svylorenz on SSC.) After we first released our program on SSC in 2005 (for version 8.2), the syntax for svyset changed. Users could continue to use our programs under version control. This update makes this redundant. We thank Philipp Poppitz for updating the programs to version 10. The help file and references in it have also been updated.

Point estimates of the measures mentioned can also be derived using my ineqdeco and sumdist, also on SSC; but they do not provide the linearised SEs that the svy programs do.
