  • Import CSV or Excel to Stata

    Dear all,

If I want to import an excel or csv file to Stata, the points/dots which characterize the numbers are always neglected after importing. Stata does not recognize them as a comma and thus I get large numbers as it sees the points/dots as separations for thousands....
How can I get the dots as dots in order to get my percentage values?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello Olivia,

Please see your data (in excel) again. I use "import excel" command and it always works well with the dots. When STATA does not recognize the dots, usually your data become string (appeared as red) after importing and therefore you need to destring.

You may wish to check it out as well as format the cells in Excel before importing. You may select - format cells - , then category.
      Best regards,
