  • Converting SPSS file to Stata: Problems with usespss

I am trying to open a sav file in Stata 13 (64-bit). I have realized that the command usespss does not work with this one, as it is for 32 bit stata. So I was wondering if there is any other way I open this file, it is extremely important for me at this point. Thank you

There is a beta version of usespss that works with 64 bit (not sure why Sergiy has never officially released it):

If you need to do this sort of thing a lot, stat/transfer is a great purchase. I only use it a few times a year but it is invaluable when I do. If you can get academic pricing it is pretty cheap.

usespss is user-written and you should state where it comes from. See the author's homepage for advice.

      Crossed with Richard's response.

Thank you so much, Richard and Daniel. I will indeed check with my department on Monday if I can purchase the stattransfer that would make my life easier. But, as I am still new to Stata, I do not understand how I need to use the beta version. Do I need to download all the files, and then how to run them in Stata? This might seem a rather stupid question and I am sorry for that.

Sergiy's web page says to install, from within Stata type
net from http://radyakin.org/transfer/usespss/beta Then just click on usespss and follow the instructions from there. usespss has a help file so it is pretty easy to figure out how to use it.
