  • What does one-unit change represent in AMEs using margins?

    Hi all,

I use the "margins" command to calculate AMEs based on my ordered regression model. I wonder what a one-unit change for continuous variables represents? Is it one standard deviation? I also assume that for the dummy variables, it represents a shift to 1 from a base value of 0. Have I gotten this right? Thanks!

If you are not already familiar with these papers, you may find the explanation you need, and more, in the nice overview of margins prepared by Richard Williams, a frequent contributor here, at http://www3.nd.edu/~rwilliam/stats/Margins01.pdf with a more detailed paper in the Stata Journal at http://www.stata-journal.com/article...article=st0260. I'll also note that Margins01.pdf is followed by Margins02.pdf ... Margins05.pdf covering more specialized topics.
