Appropriateness of using -mixed- for a single z-test value?

Hello,

In non-mixed models, [regress age sex]==[ttest age, by(sex)] in regards to group differences.

I want to make a similar comparison, but I have multilevel data (area nested in time). Is it appropriate to use -mixed- in a similar fashion, but to report a z-test value for the differences in age by sex?
