  • Stata 14.2 for Mac: full screen graphs don't show - anybody has the same issue?

For people using Stata 14.2 (MP4 in my case) on the Mac:

At some point I noticed that when working in full screen, the graph viewer did not render graphs. Instead you get blank graph region.

I have contacted Stata for this and other bugs. At first the issue was solved, but with later updates it returned. Too bad I had replaced the earlier patch. The update of 19dec2016 did not solve the problem even if mentioned under "what's new" [8].

The issue appears on a vintage Macbook Pro, as well as on the 2016 Macbook Pro (13 inch) - so as much as I am may be the only one with 'full screen issues', I'm have no clue what else, besides the program, may be causing them.

Any other Mac users who does or does not have the problem, before I bother Stata Corp. again?

    Cheers

I have duplicated the reported problem on my MacBook running macOS 10.11.6 (El Capitan, still) with Stata/SE 14.2 for Mac (64-bit Intel) Revision 16 Nov 2016.

I launch Stata, then from the View menu choose Enter Full Screen. I issue the command help twoway which opens the Viewer window in full screen. I scroll down to the examples in the Definition section and click on the link to run the scatter plot, which opens the Graph window in full screen, showing nothing.

However, if I start Graph Editor, the plot appears, and remains if I stop Graph Editor. Or, if I navigate back to my Finder window, then return to the Graph window, the plot appears.

It seems the problem lies in the initial rendering, and when re-rendering is required, the problem is avoided.

We thought we had the problem fixed because we could no longer reproduce the problem on any of our Macs after the latest update. However, we just got a new 2016 Macbook Pro and was able to reproduce the problem there. We'll investigate.

A new patch I received today has solved the issue - thanks for that! I assume this will be in the next update for all.

        Best wishes

This problem was not resolved - at least on my system - by the 9 January 2017 update.
          Code:
          Stata/SE 14.2 for Mac (64-bit Intel)
          Revision 09 Jan 2017
          Copyright 1985-2015 StataCorp LP
Running mac OS Sierra 10.12.2 on a MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015).
