Good question. To the best of my knowledge, the answer is no. I've certainly tried everything I could think of to solve this problem and never succeeded. If somebody else out there knows a way to do this, I do hope he or she will respond. What I've always had to do in the past is make a copy of the password protected spreadsheet file and then, in Excel, remove the password from it (which, of course, requires knowing the password). I then import that into Stata.
