  • Use SPSS file in STATA 64 bit

I am trying to covert and SPSS file into STATA format. I have STATA 64 bit and can only find the command for STATA 32 bit (usespss). I don't have SPSS. Any advice?

    Hy Kate,

    Welcome to the Stata Forum!

If you wish to do this task frequently, Stat/Transfer may be a good solution.

If not, and considering you don't have SPSS, you may install PSPP for Windows. It is free. There, you open any .sav file and save it, for example, as a .csv or .xls file. Then you import it into Stata.

No doubt, you may find more elegant strategies (usespss, for example), but considering your problem is just for a few files, here and there, these steps may do the trick!

    Best,

    Marcos

There is a 64 bit version of usespss. Not sure why Sergiy has not released it yet on SSC. But see
