  • Putexcel Error message with Office 2016 for MAC

    Hi all,

    Knowing working with Microsoft-Office in Mac is a big pain, I have no other option than to live with it as my work collaborators all use this and feel comfortable !! Below are my system info:

    OS X: Elcapitan
    Office version: Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac
    Stata version: 14.1 updated as of 20th July 2016 latest

    After some commands i.e. ttest of regression, the "putexcel" command transfers the data seamlessly but the error message pops up while opening the excel file. The message says:

    " Excel could not open file.xlsx because some content is unreadable. Do you want to open and repair this workbook? If Excel cannot repair the file, some data may be lost. "

    However, I can still open the file as read only and save a different version, but that is a cumbersome process for several workflows. Has this something been addressed?

    Regards,

    Further update: the error log file contains this information:

    Code:
     <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <recoveryLog xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main"><logFileName>Repair Result to extod0.xml</logFileName><summary>Errors were detected in file '/Users/Rom/Desktop/file.xlsx'</summary><repairedRecords summary="Following is a list of repairs:"><repairedRecord>Repaired Records: Format from /xl/styles.xml (Styles)</repairedRecord></repairedRecords></recoveryLog>

      Problem solved. Writing over Excel file created in earlier version of Office (Office of Mac 2011) caused the problem. Creating new excel file and let 'putexcel' work on the new file solved the problem.
