  • Error when installing spost

    Hi,
I need to use spost commands on my machine at home (MacBook running OS X, 10.8.5). I use Stata 13. I have tried to install spost using the findit command, and using the following text: "net install spost13_ado."

When I try to install each of these ways, I get the following error message:
checking spost13_ado consistency and verifying not already installed...
    unexpected end of file
    could not copy http://www.indiana.edu/~jslsoc/stata...ado/spex.sthlp
    (no action taken)

Can anyone suggest a way forward?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jessica

    Hello Jessica,

    Welcome to the Stata Forum.

Do you have the SSCs fitstat and spost9? If so, pleasy try to uninstall them before installing spost13.

    Hopefully that helps!

    Best,

    Marcos

      Hi Marcos,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't think I have those SSCs. I entereed ado dir and neither came up. I also tried the command ado uninstall spost, and the message was "package not found."

Sorry for the silly questions, and thanks for your help!

Might be a temporary glitch, so you may just need to try again later. But see Scott Long's advice at

          Hi Richard,
It happened a couple days ago as well, so I'm thinking it's more complicated than that. I get the same error message for all versions of spost (9, legacy, 12, etc). I have verified that none is installed in my version.
          Any other thoughts are welcome.

          Many thanks!
          Jessica

Can you download and install other files, e.g. from SSC? Are you in some sort of hyper-secure environment where your access to the Internet is limited? Do you maybe need to connect through a proxy server? If you are in a workplace you might need help from your IT people.

Scott Long says he doesn't see a problem on his end. He said you can email him if you want.

That's not a silly question, Jessica. Unfortunately, I really don't know how to help you further. When I downloaded spost13, I had to unstall SSC fitstat so as the installation succeeds. Well, hopefully Richard's advice in #6 works for you!
              Best regards,

              Marcos

                Dear Marcos and Richard,

Thanks to both of you for your help. I am flummoxed. I had no problems installing on my work machine (where presumably there would be more constraints). At home, it seems more difficult. I successfully installed other files, so it's not a connectivity problem. Huh. I'll keep trying.

                Thanks again,
                Jessica
