  • cannot locate ado\personal directory

I cannot locate my personal ado directory.
When I type "sysdir" in stata, I get the following:
    sysdir
    STATA: C:\ProgramData\App-V\B0856AAC-9513-4409-9311-619684940F4C\9670687B-27DE-4454-A123-13852B24BE48\Root\
    BASE: C:\ProgramData\App-V\B0856AAC-9513-4409-9311-619684940F4C\9670687B-27DE-4454-A123-13852B24BE48\Root\ado\base\
    SITE: C:\ProgramData\App-V\B0856AAC-9513-4409-9311-619684940F4C\9670687B-27DE-4454-A123-13852B24BE48\Root\ado\site\
    PLUS: c:\ado\plus\
    PERSONAL: c:\ado\personal\
    OLDPLACE: c:\ado\
I have managed to find the top four, although they are not at the path specified above, for example ado\plus is located at:
    C:\Users\mck1a15\AppData\Local\Microsoft\AppV\Clie nt\Integration\B0856AAC-9513-4409-9311-619684940F4C\Root\VFS\AppVPackageDrive\ado\plus

My issue is that I cannot find ado\personal anywhere, and of course this is the one I am wanting to copy my scheme and ado files to...
    Would really appreciate any suggestions.
Sorry if this question is very basic, I am a new stata user...
    Many thanks,
    Miranda

These can be notional places in so far as they may not exist when Stata is installed and in so far as Stata will create directories or subdirectories as and when needed as and when it installs programs on your behalf from the net.

If all else fails, then create them using Windows or the mkdir command of Stata.

If there's a problem with permissions, that's between you and your local IT support.

Thank you so much for your response.
I tried to create C:ado\personal and used "sysdir set" to tell stata where to look
but then when in stata I tried to use an ado file in the ado\personal directory, it gave me this error:
      . sysdir set PERSONAL "C:\ado\personal"

      . sgraph age
      command sgraph is unrecognized

I know I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know how to solve it...

You shouldn't need to set the personal directory. It's a bit strange of a behavior, but regardless of whether or not the personal directory exists, the -sysdir- command will return a file path for the default location. If you restart Stata, or had created the directory in Stata (e.g., -mkdir `"`c(sysdir_personal)'"'-) it should not have caused any issues.

My understanding was that Stata creates the ado\personal directory during installation. However, it seems this was not the case here.
Thank you so much for your suggestion. I don't really understand the command -mkdir `"`c(sysdir_personal)'"'- though I imagine it is telling stata to create this directory...
Anyway I somewhat "blindly" typed it in and I can finally access the ado\personal directory.
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate!
