  • Strange Problem with Graph and General Preferences Issues and External Monitors

I mainly interact with Stata by SSHing from a Mac into a Linux server with the –Y flag. I also use a Thunderbolt display to display the X11 Stata windows. When I open the General or Graph Preferences menus via Edit>Preferences when Stata is open in the Thunderbolt, the menu does not pop up on top. It is “hidden” off to the side, and I can only see it when I swipe up on the trackpad to exposé (see the attached screenshot; I have my setting reversed, so most people swipe down to do this). You can then see the menu is off to the side on the left. However, I am not able to interact with the menu in any way, even to close it. I basically have to kill Stata at this point. When I don’t use the Thunderbolt display, I don’t get this problem. Moreover, I am also able to open other types of menus without any issues.

StataCorp does not have any Thunderbolts handy, so they cannot replicate this problem. Has any else experienced this? Is there a solution?

I am not an expert on server issues, but I can share with you that I use IMAC 27 inch with an external 25 inch LG monitor connected through thunderbolt to display port. The IMAC is 2560-by-1440 resolution and the LG is HD. No problem so far. Also run at my home from a macbook-pro with an external 27 inch screen with the same resolution without any problem. Stata menus pops up perfectly.
