That is very strange. Not only are the "all caps" concerning, but what should be the View menu is labelled VIEW.MAC. You didn't say, but I assume this is happening only in Stata and not in any other application on your Mac.

I run Stata 14.1 on my Mac. I did not find a Stata Preference, nor a System Preference, that controls this behavior, and I have not seen it previously on a Mac in 30 years. I see that you are running a network licensed copy of Stata, so I think you should ask the staff who support computing at your institution for advice. Perhaps something has been upset with the network installation of Stata. (If nothing else, Stata 14.1 is out; perhaps they should update their installation.)

This is because the resources Stata uses for populating the menus cannot be found. Either Stata cannot find the menu resource file or it cannot find the ado directory which is where the resources are stored. The Stata application as well as the ado directory must be stored in the same location which is typically within the /Applications/Stata directory on your Mac and you should never move the Stata application or the ado directory out of the Stata directory.

The easiest way to fix the problem is to reinstall Stata. You should first move the existing Stata directory to the trash. If you've moved the Stata application out of the Stata directory (again, something you should never do), you must move the application to the trash too. Then reinstall Stata and immediately update (which is necessary in your case because the current version of Stata is 14.1 and you're still running Stata 14.0).
