  • Bug report: "small circle" marker broken on scatterplots in Stata 14

This has been reported to technical support, but I'm posting here so people can search for it. Using OS X 10.10.3, Stata 14.
    • sysuse auto
    • graph twoway scatter price weight, msymbol(o)
    • Observe that all points are plotted in the upper-left corner of the graph.
Works with Stata 13, and with various other marker styles. I haven’t tested all symbol styles or plot types.

That's been fixed and will be in a future update.

FWIW, this does not seem to be a problem in Stata 14 for Windows.

Thanks, Chinh. Now we know: Statalist is faster than tech support email. :-)

That's correct. A change was made to the Mac as to how circles are rendered (we now render them as 360 degree arcs instead of the previously imprecise nature they were rendered as ellipses) and we didn't realize the logic is slightly different when rendering the symbol 'O' versus 'o'. This new method of rendering circles will also be in a future update for Stata 13 but of course won't have the bug.

Actually, that bug was discovered and fixed last week.

Neat. Thank you for the background. I was curious how such a thing happened.
