  • New book: MIDAS: Meta-analytical integration of diagnostic accuracy studies

Subject: New book: MIDAS — Meta-Analytical Integration of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies in Stata

    Dear Statalisters,

I am pleased to announce a new book documenting the MIDAS suite for
bivariate diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) meta-analysis in Stata:

MIDAS: Meta-Analytical Integration of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies
    Ben A. Dwamena, MD
    BennyBeauBooks, 2026 — 451 pages, color throughout

The book covers five estimation engines side-by-side — MLE (Gaussian
    quadrature), QRSIM (quasi-random simulation), Metropolis-Hastings,
Hamiltonian Monte Carlo via CmdStan (through my bayeshmc package),
and INLA — with worked examples on real datasets in every chapter.
Topics include the bivariate/HSROC model family, forest plots, SROC
curves, Fagan nomograms, coupled study-weight plots, heterogeneity
investigation (stratified subgroup analysis, bivariate meta-regression,
area-based indices), publication bias, and clinical utility analysis
using a new HSRUC decision-theoretic framework (net benefit, relative
utility, standardised net benefit). Every MIDAS subcommand ships with
a point-and-click GUI dialog documented in the text.

Available now on Amazon in three formats:

    Hardback (color) ISBN 979-8-951454-80-5
    Paperback (color) ISBN 979-8-9951337-9-7
    Kindle ebook ISBN 979-8-951454-43-0

The MIDAS suite itself remains freely available on SSC. The current
version is v3.02 (June 2026), which includes a fix to the bvsroc
legend labelling and adds a previously missing internal helper — thanks
to Brandon Dang for the report. To install or update:

    . ssc install midas, replace
    . ssc install midas_dlg, replace

The book is intended as a working companion.

Comments and errata welcome at [email protected].
