  • Royston Test

I have heard a few things about the Shapiro-Wilk Royston Test. What formula does this test use and how does it increase 50 observations to 2000?

See the manual entry -- you can get there directly by visiting https://www.stata.com/manuals/rswilk.pdf --- and its references to papers from the early 1990s.

I think Patrick Royston would now share the view that normality tests are more or less nonsense, or rather pointless, for large sample sizes. If deviation from normality is important, it will be evident on a normal quantile plot. Conversely, a significant result is all too likely to be unimportant practically and again you need to see a normal quantile plot to decide.
