  • include only neighbor states

This is likely a simple question, I just have problem the spatial aspect for some reason.

I have some shocks for certain states in certain years. In the tests, when looking at the effects of the shocks, I only want to include neighbor states in the tests instead of all states.

For example, if Florida experiences a shock, I only want to include Georgia and Alabama as the control (non-treated) states, not all the other 49 states. I have attached a list of neighbor states in case is it helpful. For simplicity, lets assume I only want to include the control/neighbor states and the treated states in the year of the shock (no time-series issues for this question).

Is there a simple way to do this?

    A related post is here:

I suspect someone has asked such a question before, but I could not locate it on the forum.

    Thanks in advance.

It's not clear what tests you are referring to and how you implement these, but generally you group neighboring states and use the if qualifier to restrict the observations to those belonging to a certain group.
