    For each id of stock, I want to determine which portfolio it falls into, there are 20 portfolios as A to T.

    For instance, for stock id 1 it is in 1998 November, its BM is 52.19, 52.19<=56.12, so a new variable called "portfolio" is =A .
    If a stock has BM 280 in 1998 November, 280>=276.58 and 280<=347.59, "portfolio' = F for the stock

    Can anyone help me with that ???

    You didn't get a quick answer. You'll increase your chances of a useful answer by following the FAQ on asking questions - provide Stata code in code delimiters, readable Stata output, and samp[e data using dataex.

    There are a large number of stock portfolio posting on this listserve. Read them. We request you post your code - you appear to be asking for help without trying to solve the problem yourself.
