  • Compare cancer incidence using the national cancer incidence; calculate standardized incidence ratio?

    Dear all,

I want to compare the national cancer incidence and the cancer incidence of my cohort (patients that were exposed to carcinogens as a child between 1970-1985).
For this I have data on which patients were exposed as child, from what age to what age and the time and date of cancer diagnosis. I also have the national cancer incidence per 100.000 per year per five year age groups (from 1995 to 2017).

For comaparison there are a number of problems:
    - the national cancer incidence differs slightly per year
    - the national cancer incidence differs per gender and age group
    - my cohort: patients got cancer in different years and at different ages.

How do I compare the incidence of my cohort to the national cancerincidence? Do I need to calculate a standardized incidence ratio? How do I calculate this using STATA? Or do I just take the avarage incidence of all years?
Below an example of the national cancer incidence so you can see what I mean with the differences in incidence.

    Thank you in advance!
