Using Markdoc Package with a referencing software

Hello

I wonder if someone knows a way to include references in a state markdoc (E.F. Haghish, 2014. "MARKDOC: Stata module for literate programming," Statistical Software Components S457868, Boston College Department of Economics, revised 20 Apr 201) generated document?

I mostly think about using it with word and latex.

Right now, I put them in manually at the end of the day - but I think, there must be some smarter ways to do this.

I can only think of writing the document with LaTeX (also supported by markdoc), because Markdown cannot add references automatically.

Not sure if you are limited to -markdoc-, but -markstat-, by German Rodriguez, which has similar functionality, does support references (see here http://data.princeton.edu/stata/markdown/citations).
