    Thanks for the follow up.

The result of typing adopath is:

    . adopath
    [1] (BASE) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stata14\ado\base/"
    [2] (SITE) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stata14\ado\site/"
    [3] "."
    [4] (PERSONAL) "c:\ado\personal/"
    [5] (PLUS) "c:\ado\plus/"
    [6] (OLDPLACE) "c:\ado/"

I don't have "plus" folder so I made
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Stata14\ado\plus\m
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Stata14\ado\plus\s

I downloaded the links from "Econpapers" website (MIPOLATE: Stata module to interpolate values) and save them on above directories.

    I typed

    mipolate service_item_age_gender age_midpoint , gen(siage_pchip) pchip

    and got the following message:

    . mipolate service_item_age_gender age_midpoint , gen(siage_pchip) pchip
    command mipolate is unrecognized
    r(199);

Please: Look at what Stata is telling you. Read the help for commands you use.

Stata is expecting to see mipolate in c:\ado\plus\m

Putting user-written files off Stata's own directoryis not as good an idea, as Maarten and I have already emphasised. You can do, but then you would have to tell Stata where PLUS is.

        Thanks.
But I don't have permission to make "ado" folder on C drive.

Can I make plus on "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stata14\ado\plus" and then write sysdir set PLUS "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stata14\ado\plus" ?

Yes; that is something you can do.

          That said,

          0. The principle of keeping user-written files quite separate is really good.

          1. This will create a problem downstream if and when you upgrade to Stata 15 (16, ...) as then you will need to tell Stata 15 (...) to look there too.

          2. That sounds a weird set-up. I've heard of set-ups where a user can't install software in the program files directories but never the opposite. I'd talk to your local IT people and get them to explain why you can't (shouldn't) do that or preferably fix it.
