Sounds like you may already have egen_inequal installed. Have you tried out any of the commands or help?
Alternatively, could try the "replace" option, or try "ssc uninstall egen_inequal" before installing.
And, as a final option, if you are, for example, using Stata in an environment where you don't have write permissions on the default .ado path, you could use "sysdir set adopath ++ [pathname]" to add a folder upon which you *do* have write permissions, then try it. You'll have to remember to set the adopath ever time you fire up Stata, which is kind of annoying, unless you were able to convince the administrators with rights on the Stata program folder to modify profile.do for you.
