      The code suggested in #1 will do what you ask. But be careful what you wish for. If there are other variables in your data, and if those variables do not contain the same values for all observations on the same company, then you will be left with a data set that has arbitrarily and irreproducibly selected certain values for those variables. Further analyses from that point will be irreproducible and, in all probability wrong. Only if you are sure that all of the other variables are consistent within company, or that you are not going to subsequently use any of the variables that aren't, is it safe to do this.

        He can preserve first to see if there will be significant damage to his data then restore to undo the changes. Just saying..
